Recovering unpaid wages is often far more difficult than proving that money is owed. In this research report, South East Monash Legal Service examined the barriers workers face when pursuing underpayment claims, particularly those experiencing disadvantage, and highlighted how complex processes, enforcement challenges and power imbalances can prevent workers from receiving wages they have rightfully earned.
The report calls for more accessible wage recovery mechanisms and stronger support systems to ensure workplace rights can be effectively enforced.
