We’ve been providing free legal help to Melbourne’s southeast for more than 50 years.

South-East Monash Legal Service has been providing free legal assistance to communities in Melbourne’s southeast for more than 50 years. Established in partnership with Monash University, the service has long played a dual role: delivering accessible legal support, while helping to train the next generation of lawyers through a strong social justice lens.

Over time, South-East Monash Legal Service has grown alongside the communities it serves. What began as a local legal service has expanded across Greater Dandenong, Casey and Cardinia, supported by strong partnerships with schools, councils and health providers. These connections reflect an understanding that legal problems are often intertwined with broader social and economic challenges.

Today, we combine frontline legal assistance with community education, outreach and advocacy. Grounded in the experiences of the people we help, we endeavor not only to resolve individual legal issues, but to address the systemic barriers that create them.
