Opposition to Dandenong RSL (Dandenong Cranbourne RSL Sub Branch) application for a licence

Communities experiencing entrenched disadvantage are often the most vulnerable to gambling-related harm. On behalf of the Greater Dandenong Taskforce for Gambling Reform, South East Monash Legal Service opposed the Dandenong RSL’s application to install 11 additional electronic gaming machines, arguing that any perceived benefits would be outweighed by the social and economic costs to the local community. The submission highlights the impact of gambling harm on individuals, families and children, particularly in areas already experiencing high levels of financial stress, vulnerability and gambling losses, and calls for community wellbeing to take precedence over gaming expansion
