Opposition to Castello’s Clyde North Hotel (Castello Daisey’s Hotel Pty Ltd) application for a licence

As one of Victoria’s fastest-growing regions, Casey faces increasing pressure to ensure community growth is matched by community wellbeing. In its submission to the City of Casey, South East Monash Legal Service opposed the proposal to install 100 electronic gaming machines at Castello’s Clyde North Hotel, arguing that the economic and social harms associated with gambling would outweigh any claimed benefits.

The submission highlights the disproportionate impact of gambling on communities experiencing financial stress, poor mental health, family violence and other forms of disadvantage, and calls for a preventative approach that prioritises community health over gambling expansion.
