Job security affects far more than a person’s employment. Precarious employment influences financial stability, housing security, health and the ability to participate fully in community life.

In its submission to the Federal Senate Select Committee on Job Security, South East Monash Legal Service highlighted the experiences of workers in casual, labour hire and gig economy roles, and advocated for stronger employment protections, clearer definitions of employment status, greater safeguards for migrant workers, and better enforcement of workplace rights to reduce exploitation and insecurity.
