Australia’s migration system plays a vital role in supporting economic participation, community development and social cohesion. In its submission to the Joint Standing Committee on Migration, South East Monash Legal Service highlighted the need for migration settings that better support temporary visa holders, migrant workers and people seeking asylum, including stronger workplace protections, expanded access to the Fair Entitlements Guarantee, improved responses to family violence, and fairer pathways to permanent residency.

The submission emphasises that migrants can make their fullest contribution to Australian society when they are supported by fair, accessible and humane systems.
