Human rights protections should be accessible, consistent and enforceable for everyone. In its submission to the Parliamentary Joint Committee on Human Rights, South-East Monash Legal Service supported the introduction of a federal Human Rights Act, arguing that Australia’s existing protections are fragmented and insufficient to safeguard the rights of vulnerable and disadvantaged people.
The submission advocates for a nationally consistent framework that embeds human rights into government decision-making, strengthens accountability, and provides clearer pathways for people to seek protection and redress when their rights are affected.
